چکیده

We evaluated the effect of where the hole is drilled in the shell when using the ear-hanging or Nimai-ake method in scallop aquaculture. We examined its influence on growth and mortality during 8-month growth trials on the scallop Patinopecten yessoensis at Shikabe, Japan. Our Ž . observations showed: 1 no differences in growth and mortality between drilling the hole in the Ž . posterior compared to the anterior ear; 2 that drilling at positions next to the ligament causes Ž . increased mortality; 3 that the lowest increase in shell height and total weight is obtained when Ž . the hole is drilled next to the ligament on the anterior ear; and 4 that growth is greatest when the Ž . hole is drilled near the corners of the ears either on the anterior or posterior ears . q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Chromosomal mapping of tandem repeats in the Yesso Scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis... 157 Chromosomal mapping of tandem repeats in the Yesso Scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis (Jay, 1857), utilizing fluorescence in situ hybridization

Construction of cytogenetic maps can provide important information for chromosome identification, chromosome evolution and genomic research. However, it hasn’t been conducted in many scallop species yet. In the present study, we attempted to map 12 fosmid clones containing tandem repeats by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in the Yesso scallop Patinopecten yessoensis (Jay, 1857). The r...

Physical mapping of immune-related genes in Yesso scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis) using fluorescent in situ hybridization

The innate immune system plays a pivotal role in defending invasion of microorganisms for scallops. Previous studies on immune-related genes in the Yesso scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis (Jay, 1857) have mainly focused on characterization and expression pattern in response to bacterial challenge, no research has been carried out on the cytogenetic level yet. In the present study, eight fosmid c...

Is Sexual Size Dimorphism Inherent in the Scallop Patinopecten yessoensis?

Studies on sexual size dimorphism in Pectinidae are limited. This work deals with the mobile long-lived scallop Patinopecten yessoensis, a common (fished and cultured) species in the subtidal benthos of the Sea of Japan. A previously developed method of age determination in P. yessoensis allowed me to compare the parameters of same aged males and females in scallop populations. The shell growth...

Transcriptome Sequencing and Characterization of Japanese Scallop Patinopecten yessoensis from Different Shell Color Lines

Shell color is an important trait that is used in breeding the Japanese scallop Patinopecten yessoensis, the most economically important scallop species in China. We constructed four transcriptome libraries from different shell color lines of P. yessoensis: the left and right shell mantles of ordinary strains of P. yessoensis and the left shell mantles of the 'Ivory' and 'Maple' strains. These ...

Transcriptome Sequencing of Zhikong Scallop (Chlamys farreri) and Comparative Transcriptomic Analysis with Yesso Scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis)

BACKGROUND Bivalves play an important role in the ecosystems they inhabit and represent an important food source all over the world. So far limited genetic research has focused on this group of animals largely due to the lack of sufficient genetic or genomic resources. Here, we performed de novo transcriptome sequencing to produce the most comprehensive expressed sequence tag resource for Zhiko...
